Anthony Martial Anthony Martial has handed Manchester United a major injury scare after leaving Wembley on crutches on Tuesday night. The 19-year-old took a knock to his left foot during France’s friendly defeat to England and was forced off in the 67th minute. His foot was heavily bandaged as he departed the stadium on crutches after the game and United boss Louis van Gaal will be anxiously waiting to discover the severity of the injury.Martial has scored five goals since his big-money move from Monaco in the summer and with United already short of strikers, they cannot afford to lose the £36m man for a long time.“He’s in quite a bit of pain after the match as a result of a play inside the area,” France manager Didier Deschamps said.“It’s a knock to the top of his foot.”Martial’s injury comes after his United teammate Michael Carrick was carried off on a stretcher during England’s 2-0 defeat to Spain last week. The midfielder suffered an ankle injury and is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the month. 1

China Shipping was the first company to use the technology at the Port of Los Angeles, resulting in the elimination of 300 tons of pollution-forming nitrogen oxides since 2004, according to port officials. Shipping line NYK is scheduled to debut a new AMP generator next month when its ship, Atlas, berths at the port. Additionally, the port’s passenger cruise terminal is expected to install two AMP stations by the end of 2008, according to port officials. “The Evergreen terminal AMPing project is exciting because they have shown a commitment to cleaner operations by building 10 vessels that are outfitted and ready to be plugged in to electric power when they call here,” said Mike Christensen, deputy executive director of development for the Port of Los Angeles. By Art Marroquin STAFF WRITER Evergreen Marine Corp.’s terminal will receive an electrical power generator by next year as part of ongoing efforts to reduce diesel emissions from cargo ships docking at the Port of Los Angeles. Under a $4 million contract approved Thursday night by the harbor commission, Dynalectric of Los Alamitos will install the Alternative Maritime Power equipment at Berths 230-232 on Terminal Island, according to a harbor commission report.
Also, he said the video leaves out the two cascades that actually are on U.S. territory, the American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls. “This is not the United States, this is 100 percent Canada, shot from the Canadian side,” Gromosiak said after reviewing the video at the request of The Associated Press. “This is an insult.” Although brief, the appearance of the Horseshoe Falls in a U.S. tourism promotion effort is likely to also vex Canadians, who long have fought to distinguish themselves from their larger neighbor to the south. 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. Backed by a soaring orchestral soundtrack, shots of those attractions are interspersed with the smiling images of people of all creeds and colors. The video, “Welcome: Portraits of America,” is to be played at select airports in the United States – starting at Dulles International Airport outside Washington, D.C., and George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston – and at U.S. embassies abroad. About four minutes into the seven-minute production, viewers are treated to the impressive sight and sound of water roaring over Niagara Falls before the screen shifts to the Lincoln Memorial. In showing the natural wonder, Disney’s filmmakers, however, chose the Horseshoe Falls, the only one of Niagara’s three waterfalls to lie almost entirely on the Canadian side of the border separating western New York state from southern Ontario province. Making matters worse, a visitor to the U.S. would not even be able to get the same view of the falls in the video because the scene was shot from a vantage point in Canada, according to Paul Gromosiak, a Niagara Falls, N.Y., historian and author.
“It would be a betrayal to turn around after the vote and tell people there are no summer programs,” said City Manager Paul Phillips. The $673,850 would be enough to keep the library, which is slated to stay open until June, open through September. The money will also pay for three months of summer recreational programs. The city expects an estimated $325,730 from fees paid for recreational activities, said city spokeswoman Bobbi Kemp. Despite the unanimous vote to extend the programs, several council members expressed reservations about supporting the measure. Councilman Kevin Stapleton argued that the council risked losing a lot of money if the utility tax was not renewed. “We’re spending $673,000 betting on whether a community group can get this measure on the ballot and get it passed,” said Stapleton. Councilwoman Peggy Delach said the city was giving the impression it could afford to not cut programs. “If the utility tax does not get renewed, we would be sending another mixed message that if you don’t want to pay the tax you can still have all the city’s programs,” said Delach.160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. COVINA — Several months after passing severe budget cuts, the City Council reversed course last week and re-instated funding for summer recreation programs and the library. It was the second time the city changed its mind on the cuts: in July, the city reversed $170,950 in cuts in the 2007-08 budget for graffiti removal and crossing guards. At the July 17 meeting, several council members warned that there was no room for reversing cuts in the next year’s budget. “I want to make sure that everyone understands that there really won’t be any money for this in next year’s budget,” said Mayor John King at that meeting. AD Quality Auto 360p 720p 1080p Top articles1/5READ MOREStriving toward a more perfect me: Doug McIntyre Despite the warning, the $673,850 in funds approved at Tuesday’s meeting come from the 2008-09 budget where over $7 million in cuts are scheduled. Those cuts are meant to offset the expected loss of $5.5 million in funding from the user’s utility tax that was voted down in a city election last March. The city is scheduled to stop collecting the tax in March 2009. What has changed since the July meeting, said Mayor King, is that a community group is circulating a petition to put a measure on the June ballot that would extend the utility tax for another 10 years, until 2019. “I firmly believe the community will make a different decision this time, and I believe it will lead to a healthier community,” said King. At Tuesday’s meeting, city staff said that if the community voted to extend the tax, there would be no need to cut the programs.

A devastated Joe Hart apologised after England embarrassingly crashed out of Euro 2016. The Three Lions were beaten 2-1 by minnows Iceland, who advanced to the last eight of the tournament to set up a meeting with hosts France. After taking an early lead through Wayne Rooney, Lars Lagerback’s men scored twice in 12 first-half minutes to add to their amazing story. Hart, who could have dealt with both goals better, told talkSPORT’s Nigel Adderley: “Yes, we are a downbeat group of players, understandably after what’s happened.“But we’ve only got ourselves to blame. We took the lead and let two quick goals in. Obviously a set piece, throw in which we knew all about, and quite a tame shot I should be saving and I hold my hands up for that.“I have not been up to the standards I have set myself or the country requires for this tournament and I can only apologise for that.“After that we just couldn’t find a way of getting through. It’s not down to a lack of application, effort, passion or desire.“It just wasn’t meant to be, it’s very tough to answer, very tough right now. Like I say, all the effort and preparation went in and we didn’t perform and like I say myself personally didn’t perform to the level that’s required.”After the match, Roy Hodgson confirmed his resignation as Three Lions boss after four years and three tournaments, with his contract due to expire this summer. Assistants Gary Neville and Ray Lewington also followed him in resigning from their posts.Hart added: “Of course [I have sympathy], we win and lose as a unit.“It’s unfortunate when people’s jobs come into play. But it’s been a pleasure to work with Roy, he’s thrown his heart and soul into it. He’s a proud Englishman and it’s difficult circumstances to finish on.”On England’s chances at future tournaments, Hart said: “I’m going to have to believe. Football goes again.“It’s going to feel like the end of the world right now. Football is going to keep being played and English talent will keep emerging and it’s up to us now to pick ourselves up and go again.”
Wales’ biggest match since 1958 ended in glory as Hal Robson-Kanu’s sensational goal helped them onto a 3-1 win over Belgium and a place in the Euro 2016 semi-finals.Radja Nainggolan scored early on to hand the Red Devils a well-deserved lead, but Chris Coleman’s men showed a resilience that has come to define their performances, and equalised through Ashley Williams. In a second half where Wayne Hennessey’s goal was peppered with opportunities, it was down to Robson-Kanu to turn the Belgian defence and send the ball into the back of the net, before Sam Vokes headed a third and guaranteed Wales’ place in a clash against Portugal.Early Belgium dominance was rewarded just 12 minutes in, Nainggolan thrashing the ball through Hennessey’s fingers with a powerful shot from outside the box. It’s hard to say they didn’t deserve taking the lead, having recorded a number of clear chances in the opening stages. Two Eden Hazard crosses were not sent on target after being played into the area, and three shots in quick succession were somehow kept out of the goal.Yannick Carrasco had a close range attempt saved by Hennessey, and Thomas Meunier shot from the rebound was cleared off the line by Neil Taylor. That rebound fell to Hazard, but he could only shoot high over the bar. However, Nainggolan did grab the opening goal minutes later – but that seemed to kick-start Wales’ performance. They started to keep the ball well, actually controlling possession rather than chasing the ball as they had been in the opening stages.Aaron Ramsey had a diagonal shot blocked, and then Taylor came within inches of grabbing an equaliser thanks to some great work from the Arsenal midfielder.Making space for himself on the right side of the area, he cut the ball back into the centre where an unmarked Taylor came rushing in, sending a low strike towards goal.It looked certain to fly into the back of the net, but Thibaut Courtois somehow got down to his right to palm the ball away. However, that world class save was nothing but a reprieve – as the equaliser came just three minutes later.Hal Robson-Kanu won a corner which Ramsey sent curling towards the area, finding captain Williams, who had been left alone by the entire Belgium defence. His low header flew into the corner, bouncing past the outstretched leg of Kevin De Bruyne.Bale came close to grabbing a second, charging alone up the pitch in impressive fashion, but only managing to strike a weak attempt which Courtois held with ease.James Chester headed wide as Wales were on the ascendancy, whilst Williams sent another free header over the bar when he really should have scored.Belgium started the second period with real drive, and Lukaku missed a glorious chance to retake the lead just two minutes in; heading Meunier’s cross wide of the far post.Hazard drove towards goal and sent a powerful strike flashing past the post, and Williams had to stretch to head a cross away for a corner with Lukaku lurking close to goal.Wales were struggling to show the control they had in the first-half, but a rare attack brought their second goal, Robson-Kanu netting one of the goals of the tournament.Ramsey sent in a ball from the right-wing which the out-of-contract attacker picked up on the penalty.Facing away from goal and with nothing on, he turned three defenders and sent a composed finish past Courtois.Wales had taken the lead and were flying, Williams forcing a save from another corner, and then sending an audacious scissor kick attempt over the bar.Fellaini, who replaced Carrasco at half-time, used his physicality well to win another excellent Meunier cross with his head, but somehow he sent the ball wide of goal when it looked easier to score.Wales were pushed further and further back as the game passed into its final stagesThey escaped two strong penalty shouts and an Axel Witsel piledriver, before charging up the other end and grabbing their third goal of the night, Sam Vokes sending a perfect header past the flailing Courtois. It sealed the win, and ended an almost perfect night for the Welsh, as cards to Ben Davies and Ramsey – meaning they are suspended for the semi-final – put a dampener on the evening, 1 Hal Robson-Kanu celebrates his sensational goal as Wales reach the semi-finals
1 Chelsea are ready to sell Diego Costa back to Atletico Madrid – and replace him with Arsenal and Liverpool target Gonzalo Higuain.According to Spanish newspaper AS, Costa could be on his way back to the Spanish capital after just two seasons at Stamford Bridge, where he has scored 32 goals in 54 Premier League appearances.Chelsea have already splashed the cash on striking reinforcements this summer, landing the highly-rated Belgian Michy Batshuayi for £33million from Marseille. But they appear ready to part with Brazil-born Spaniard Costa, as long as they can seal a deal to replace him with Napoli’s Higuain. The 28-year-old is in high demand this summer after scoring a staggering 36 goals in just 35 Serie A outings last term, attracting the attention of both Arsenal and Liverpool.Higuain has a minimum fee release clause of £78m set in his contract and Napoli insist they will not sell for any less. But this report has claimed that Chelsea are confident of landing him for less than that and are currently drawing up a suitable bid. Gonzalo Higuain is wanted by Chelsea, according to reports in Spain
